⚠️ The whole life industry's rebuttal is that cash value grows tax-deferred and can be accessed via policy loans. This is true, but policy loans reduce the death benefit and can cause the policy to lapse if not managed carefully. The comparison above uses the insurer's own quoted cash value growth rate.
The core math is simple: if you invest the premium difference at market returns, the investment almost always outpaces whole life cash value over the same period. The exception is if you buy term, don't invest the difference, and live past the term, then whole life wins. Discipline is the variable term-and-invest advocates often underweight.
